Words, Voice, Body Language - If you need a laugh, look at this!

Everyone these days seems to have heard of Professor Albert Mehrabian. Mehrabian has pioneered the understanding of communications since the 1960's, and established this classic statistic for the effectiveness of spoken communications:

7% of meaning is in the words that are spoken.
38% of meaning is paralinguistic (the way that the words are said).
55% of meaning is in facial expression.

Well a Polish friend of mine showed me this footage of an interviewer falling to pieces laughing (LIVE) because of someone’s squeaky voice. VERY funny but also a reminder that body language, voice and words all need to be worked on and in sync. Watch and enjoy! Hats off to the chap with the dodgy voice for not walking off the stage and/or beating the interviewer.

You really don’t to speak Polish to appreciate this!!

X Factor

My rather candid coaching style (honest feedback FOLLOWED by reconstruction has always been my approach - too much time working for German PLCs perhaps, who are not big into niceties!) has prompted several of my candidates to ruefully refer to me as the Simon Cowell of the Conservative Party. Well, this weekend I trained an X Factor hopeful in preparation for their second round in front of the producers, prior to facing the man himself. What great fun and what a change from business pitches and politics!
